Kitchens and bathrooms are the most complicated rooms in the house to renovate. It is not just because they are expensive or because you live without them during the work. It is because almost every trade overlaps in the same small space. The plumbing needs to go in before the tiling. The tiling needs to be done before the units are fitted. The units need to be in before the worktops can be measured. If any one of those stages is out of sequence — or if the person doing one does not communicate with the person doing the next — you end up with delays, rework, and a result that does not sit right.

That is exactly where Bertie's multi-trade background makes the biggest difference. He handles the plumbing connections, the tiling, the carpentry for the units and worktops, the plastering where walls need making good, and the finishing throughout. He knows the order the work needs to happen in because he is the one doing it all. There is no handover between contractors, no waiting for someone else to show up, no mismatched standards between trades. One person. One consistent standard. From the first pipe to the final coat of paint.

To be clear about what Bertie does: he fits and finishes. He is not an interior designer and he does not design kitchens from scratch. What he brings is the trade skill and the co-ordination to take whatever you have chosen — your own units, a supplier's range, or a combination — and install it properly, in the right sequence, to a genuinely high standard. If you are not sure what to buy or where to source it, he will give you honest advice based on years of seeing what holds up and what does not. But the creative vision is yours. Bertie makes it happen.

Why Bertie for Kitchen & Bathroom Fitting?

Most people who have renovated a kitchen or bathroom before know how quickly things go wrong when the trades do not talk to each other. Bertie is not managing a team of strangers — he is doing the work himself across every discipline, which means the plumbing, the tiling, and the carpentry are all held to the same standard and delivered in the right order. He has been fitting kitchens and bathrooms for over 20 years and he has seen every layout, every awkward access issue, and every supplier cut corner. He also knows how to protect new units during installation — something that sounds obvious but is routinely ignored, and expensive to put right. With Bertie, there is one person accountable for the whole job from start to finish.

How It Works

1

Site Survey and Sequence Plan

Bertie visits to assess the space, check drainage positions, review your unit specifications, and agree the sequence of works before a single thing is touched.

2

Strip Out and First Fix

Old fittings come out, plumbing and any structural carpentry work are completed while the walls are open, and everything is made ready for tiling and fitting.

3

Fit, Tile, and Finish

Units are fitted, worktops measured and cut, tiling completed to the agreed layout, sanitary ware connected and tested, and the room snagged and handed over.

Kitchen & Bathroom FAQs

Absolutely. Most of my clients supply their own units, whether from IKEA, Howdens, B&Q, or a specialist supplier. I'll review the specifications before we start, flag anything that looks like it might cause a fitting issue, and take it from there. The only thing I'd ask is that we go through the delivery schedule together — I need the units on site at the right time in the sequence, not before or after.

A bathroom renovation is usually five to seven working days, depending on how much plumbing is being moved and the complexity of the tiling. A kitchen refit tends to take longer — typically ten to fifteen days — because there are more units, more plumbing connections, and the worktop templating usually happens a day or two into the installation. I will give you a realistic timeline when I quote the job. I do not give you an optimistic number and then disappear for three weeks.

It is something I take seriously because I have seen what happens when people do not. New units go down on protective boarding from the moment they come off the pallet. I use the right tools for cutting worktops and panels — not whatever happens to be in the van that day — and I work in a logical sequence so finished surfaces are not being worked around after the fact. It is basic professionalism, but it is not always basic practice.
